Teaching for Qkids

Qkids for Student Teachers

What is Qkids?
  • Qkids is an online interactive learning platform for English as a second language.  Qkids uses a fully immersive software that provides students a small classroom to learn English.  There are between 1-4 students per class.  Teachers do not need to speak Chinese!
Getting Hired
  • Teaching for Qkids doesn't require any certifications!  Qkids requires either a degree or for the teacher to be currently enrolled in a degree program.  The course of study doesn't matter (I'm enrolled in a dental hygiene degree).  You also need to have some experience with children or teaching.  This can be tutoring, camp counseling, baby-sitting, etc. Just highlight what experience you do have!
  • The application process is pretty simple.  You will need to film a 2-3 minute video introducing yourself and what degree you have or are pursing and read a children's book.  The best tip I can give you for the video is to be very enthusiastic (which you will need to be with the children should you get hired๐Ÿ˜‰ ). Qkids website has sample videos for the application video and I highly recommend reviewing them as they show you exactly what they are looking for.

Pay
  • Each class is 30 minutes long and has a base pay of $8 per class.  Each class can earn up to $10 depending on performance and attendance.  If you are scheduled for 15 or more actual classes you will receive an attendance bonus of $1 and an extra $1 per class depending on parent reviews regardless of how many classes you teach.  Therefore, $8 base pay per class + $1 attendance bonus per class + $1 performance bonus per class =$10 per class ($20 per hour).
Hiring Process
  • If you apply and Qkids decides to move forward with you as a candidate, then you will be asked to do demo classes.  This will be a time to get familiar with the software and games that Qkids provides and demonstrate your ability to move through a lesson.  You will be assigned a coach and they will help you throughout the lesson.  There are 2 demo lessons.  As long as you are proficient in the software (it's super simple and relaxed so don't worry!), then you will move to trial classes.  In these classes you will teach actual students and the Qkids coaches will review them and provide feedback to help you improve.  There are between 2-7 trial classes, typically 5.  After reviewing your trial classes and how receptive you are to feedback, Qkids will decide to hire you or not.  You will be paid for the trial classes but not the demo classes.  The entire process takes between 1-2 weeks.
Teaching Schedule
  • So why is Qkids a good fit for students?  All of the classes are first thing in the morning (from 6:30-9:15 AM) 7 days a week.  You can work part-time from home before you head to classes for the day!
  • You only need to commit to 12 classes a week, only 6 hours a week!
